WORKING ACROSS COMPANIES WITHIN A COMPANY?
That’s possible with Metzner. A holding company that has several subsidiaries. What is behind it? Which companies are involved and why? It’s all about cables. There is an entire value chain behind it. Successful work through cooperation and interaction that offers added value to the customer. This is the approach taken by Metzner Holding.
SUCCESSFUL WORKING THROUGH COOPERATION
Individual machines can also be expanded into an entire, automated production line. Standardised machines are important — no question about it! However, in such a fast-moving industry as we experience today, we must be able to implement our customers’ special wishes with regard to machines or production lines quickly and efficiently. In doing so, we count on our long-standing partnerships and concentrated know-how.
Metzner Holding has a total of around 150 employees and is based in Neu-Ulm. The individual subsidiaries are controlled from here under the management of Gerhard Rauch. In a series of articles we will go into more detail about the role of each individual company. The following diagram provides an introduction to the history of Metzner.

The company, based in the rural town of Bußmannshausen (Neu-Ulm), produces precision parts with state-of-the-art technical equipment. Qualified skilled workers pay meticulous attention to the demands of customers and partners. Customers from the mechanical engineering or precision engineering sectors appreciate this. Reliability and precision are the top priorities at Metzner Präzisionstechnik.
The precision parts can be made of a wide variety of materials. Steel (hardened and unhardened), SPM, aluminium, brass, copper, sheet metal, stainless steel and various other plastics.
The entire processing of the parts, such as milling, turning, eroding and finishing, is carried out by the skilled workers with the most modern technical equipment according to the customer’s wishes and requirements. The high-quality machinery includes equipment from manufacturers such as DMB, Hermle and Chamilles. Special and individual designs can be produced with the highest degree of perfection thanks to well-founded expertise and many years of know-how. Metzner Präzisionstechnik produces parts for the construction of machines and also for its sister companies Metzner Maschinenbau, Metzner E‑Mobility and ramatech, among others. Thus, a large part is produced in-house and leads to an enormous increase in quality. The manufactured parts stand for performance, progress and innovation.
As the largest component in the entire holding company, Metzner Maschinenbau GmbH produces internationally and is a leading manufacturer of cutting and assembly machines in cable and plastics processing as well as automation solutions for the carbide industry and medical technology.
For more than 30 years, Metzner machines and solutions have been convincing through patented and innovative processes. This applies to both the wide range of cutting technologies in rubber and plastics processing as well as pioneering solutions for the processing of cables, stranded wires and corrugated tubes. In addition, Metzner has supplemented its product range in recent years with automation solutions for powder presses and other industrial applications.
As a system provider, Metzner develops and produces both series machines and customer-specific systems for each product area. Various patents and utility models underline the company’s know-how. Metzner currently employs over 100 staff and trainees in Neu-Ulm and has a worldwide presence with more than 30 representatives. A total of 23 series machines belong to the product range, which is continuously supplemented by numerous special solutions. All machines are developed and assembled in Neu-Ulm, Germany. In addition, Metzner holds 25 patents, which underline the company’s culture of innovation and inventive spirit.

All processes. All contact systems. Five automation platforms.
In just a few years, electric vehicles have developed from a marginal phenomenon to a key topic for the mobility of the future. Rapidly increasing production figures for e‑vehicles in the next few years underline the importance of this technology for automotive engineering. Metzner transformed its experience from the processing of special cables to the requirements of high-voltage cables at a very early stage and today already offers widely used automation solutions for all processes of high-voltage cable processing and the assembly of a wide range of contact systems.
Metzner E‑Mobility offers a wide range of different automation solutions for high-voltage cable assembly. With its efficient automation systems for the production of high-voltage cable harnesses, Metzner E‑Mobility GmbH is making a significant contribution to making electric vehicles affordable for the mass market.

The hydraulics hiss quietly, silver tablets moving very quick — about the size of an A4 sheet of paper — from left to right to the next station. The orange cable is clamped, a tool moves over it and presses the connector in place. 21 work steps a workpiece goes through a workpiece in this 20-meter-long meter long machine, which is installed Metzner E‑Mobility in Neu-Ulm, Germany.

Since 2013, Metzner Holding has been using 90 — 100 % in-house electricity for its entire production. “With photovoltaics we generate clean and sustainable electricity” — Gerhard Rauch (Managing Director).

In March 2019 EQ ZERT certified the quality management system of Metzner Maschinenbau GmbH according to ISO 9001:2015.
